Jorden by Werner Werenskiold is a striking Art Deco travel poster that captures the spirit of early 20th‑century wanderlust. Designed to promote the publication “Jorden” (Norwegian for “The World”), the composition channels the optimism of the interwar years, when steamships, railways, and the dawn of commercial flight brought far‑flung destinations within reach. Stylized global landmarks—such as a tiered pagoda and desert pyramids—signal an invitation to explore cultures across continents, while bold, modern typography anchors the poster’s promotional purpose.
This is a museum‑quality fine art print of the original antique travel poster, produced by The Unique Maps Co. Choose from acid‑free archival paper with a velvety matte finish or artist’s cotton canvas for a gallery‑ready look. Available in a wide range of sizes, with optional custom framing, float mounting, and UV‑protective glazing. Personalize your piece with a caption, commemorative date, or dedication; we can also tailor margins and color profiles to suit your space.
About the artist: Werner Werenskiold was a Norwegian illustrator and graphic designer active in the early to mid‑20th century, known for crisp linework, assured color blocks, and a refined modernist sensibility. Working at a time when Scandinavian visual culture embraced clarity and function, Werenskiold’s posters and publication designs balanced continental Art Deco flair with Nordic restraint—making his work both visually arresting and elegantly timeless.
Why this poster matters: Jorden distills the global imagination of its era into a single, compelling image. The Art Deco movement favored streamlined geometry, simplified silhouettes, and eye‑catching lettering that could be read at a glance—all perfectly suited to travel publicity. By pairing instantly recognizable architectural forms from different regions, the poster speaks to an age of increasing mobility and curiosity about the wider world, reflecting advances in printing and design that pushed posters from mere announcements to collectible art.
Design and color you’ll love: A radiant field of yellow sets the stage, energized by confident accents of red and grounded by verdant greens and deep blues. Clean, flat planes of color and sharply articulated shapes—angular spires, curving dunes, and tiered roofs—create rhythm and movement without clutter. The strong “JORDEN” masthead delivers graphic punch and balance, making the piece a focal point in a study, travel‑themed room, or contemporary living space. If you’re drawn to mid‑century interiors, modern minimalism, or the romance of world travel, this print offers a sophisticated, conversation‑starting statement.
Thoughtful and enduring, this fine art print makes a superb gift for travel lovers, globe‑trotters, recent returnees from an epic trip, and collectors of Art Deco design. Ideal for birthdays, housewarmings, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, or Christmas—any occasion where you want to celebrate a love of the wider world and the golden age of travel.
